McAfee LiveSafe Review

For me security is important, whether that’s security at home or in regards to computer security. Gone are the days when all you need is security on a home pc, now we as a family use so many different devices. As I type this on a laptop my wife is on a smartphone while the girls are using a tablet to play games. We have three tablets and two smart phones as well as a camera that runs on Android and all of these needs some form of security.

The chance to review a McAfee product came up and it sounded perfect, and I’m sure many have heard of them before but in case you haven’t heres a little background about them.

McAfee is the world’s largest dedicated security technology company and its Digital Assets report, conducted earlier this year, interestingly showed that Brits now own over 3,000 digital items (such as photos, videos documents etc.). Consequently nearly 23% of UK households now have more than five digital devices, which naturally raise the issue of security concerns and losing digital assets.

So when the box arrived with McAfee LiveSafe I was a little worried when the box was so light, me being half asleep at the time thought they’d missed the CD out but oh no there was a card in the box with the product key code and where to download it from...simple.

The installation on the laptop was simple and very quick and took maybe 5 minutes at the most and towards the end you create a McAfee account which is kind of like a central dashboard where you can monitor various things and change different settings. This is also where you can add different devices so I added my smartphone which involved me added my number at straight away I received a message with a link to take me straight to the download page and again within minutes it was downloaded.

McAfee LiveSafe has so many different features, many of which I’m sure I haven’t fully used. One of the features is something called SafeKey which basically means you create a SafeKey account and you can store passwords, address, phone number etc all under one place so you only have to remember one password. All the information is synced over all the registered devices and when a website requests these details SafeKey automatically fills in the information. To give you peace of mind this system uses government level encryption to keep sensitive information top secret.

Now for the protection of the pc it has many features such as

  • Virus and Malware Protection
  • Vulnerability Scanner
  • Real-Time Safeguards
  • Safe Searching and Shopping - Using a colour code method
  • Hacked Page Protection
  • USB and Removable Drive Scan
  • Spam and Dangerous Email Blocker

The McAfee LiveSafe PC security is all run from a user interface which allows you to set various things and permissions, it also shows and threats, updates and many other wonderful things.

Unlike some security software this doesn’t slow my computer down and doesn’t make a big deal which I think is the way it should be. I know it’s there but it doesn’t spend the whole time flashing up and driving me mad.

With regards to the smartphone protection it seems to work really well. Some of the features included are

  • Antimalware
  • Call and SMS Blocking
  • Device Security
  • Device Lock
  • Safe Surfing
  • Backup, Restore and Wipe

Every time an app is updated or installed McAfee will scan and give you a little message which gives great peace of mind. It also scans during the day and will alert you if anything needs fixing or if there is a security risk.

My overall review so far is it’s the most in depth security software I’ve come across and it covers everything I can think of and the fact you can use it across many devices is a massive massive plus. The advantage that you can also set up parental controls to limit as much or as little as you like.

With McAfee LiveSafe you won’t be disappointed.
