Sculptures Around the World

As a family we like to try days out and do things a little bit different. Theme parks and things like that are fun and we do enjoy them but when we get the chance we like to go to something a little bit unique.

Last Summer we headed down to Brighton for a brilliant event called the Sand Sculpture Festival. This was a collection of all these amazing works of art that have been completely made of sand. Included in the collection was a range of animals, various famous landmarks and even a sand Hollywood sign.

The work that went into these designs were amazing and some of them looked like carvings from wood. Seeing things like this made me realise just how bad my artwork used to be at school.

Our next plan is to try and get to see some of the amazing ice sculptures across the World. Whenever the snow starts to fall we all get outside and see what we can create. Often what we make is a weird looking snowman.

These ice sculptures are stunning to look at and everytime I see one I am amazed at how they manage to create them. One slip and the piece of art is ruined. I have also always wondered how they manage to make them without it melting too quickly.

Looking at some of the photos from the Ice sculptures it seems there is nothing that can’t be made from ice, this includes model buildings, slides and amazingly an ice bar. Too be honest I have enough trouble making ice cubes.

What amazing and unique family events have you been to?

The Tour of Britain

Last weekend the Tour of Britain had the joy of going through Sussex and on that stage it went through our little town and of course we headed off to take a look. I had never seen the town so busy with what seemed like everyone making their way to the high street.

Tour of Britain

The thing is we had a rough idea as to what time they would appear but there was still some waiting around with lots and lots of police bikes, various medical cars and team cars. Every time something came round there was a cheer followed by a groan when they realised it was the cyclists.

And then it happened, the lead riders came hurtling around the corner and boom that was it, in a flash the front 5 guys had whizzed past us and then we had to wait for the chasing pack.

About 10 minutes later the rest of the field came past and again it was so fast it was difficult to make anyone out and with regards to taking photos it was more press and hope.

Now taking photos proved to be a bit tricky but I did manage to take one good photo out of the lot.

On the whole we enjoyed the event and soon rushed back home to see if we could see ourselves on the TV but unfortunately we didn't.

Did anyone else manage to see the Tour of Britain?

A Picnic on Brighton Beach

We're very lucky with where we live as just down the road from us is the brilliant seaside town of Brighton. So during the Bank Holiday weekend we headed down there to go and see the Sand Sculptor Festival

While we were down there we spent the rest of the day on the beach. We were expecting it to be busy but it was very quite with just a few people here and there plus a couple of fishermen.

The girls are more than happy to just to run around and play on the beach and we're more than happy to just sit back and watch them. Watching them edge closer to the sea and then dashing back when a slightly bigger wave approaches.

The real highlight was getting to have a picnic on the beach and as an added bonus as we were away from the pier and other visitors we didn't get attacked by the seagulls. It was fun just to enjoy the fresh air without any distractions of phones or technology and watch a few boats sail past.

While having a walk around we also came across a little water park and that was the highlight for the girls...they sot soaking wet but by the time we'd walked back to the car and of course had an ice cream they were dried off. See fun days out don't have to cost a fortune...just memorable

A Day at Sea Life Centre Brighton

As a little treat for the girls we were invited by the wonderful people at the Sea Life Centre Brighton to come and visit them and to enjoy the special Octonauts event. So to make it a little bit more of an adventure we headed down on the train to Brighton station which is only a 10 - 15 min walk and it also has the advantage that you get to walk along the wonderful seafront and head past the iconic Brighton pier.

The Sea Life Centre is located just across the road from the pier and is easy to find and as you head down the steps to the entrance you can see straight away that their is an Octonauts event going on from the posters and signs. As it was a Sunday we expected to be queuing for ages but it was just and easy.

This Sea Life Centre is actually underground and this allows lots and lots of the original features to still exist and this means that it's a lot more visually appealing. When you walk into the main room make sure you look up as you'll see the archways all lit up in different colours and this is a great feature.

As there was an Octonauts event on they had various things for the children to so such as an activity sheet to complete where they had to find clues and answers around the centre. During the course of the day they also had meet and greets with the characters.

The girls also loved going on the glass bottom boat and seeing the sharks and turtles so close to them. Also to my surprise they also stepped up to touch the starfish and kept going back for more.

Over the course of the day they also have various talks and demonstrations at the main tank which is always good fun and educational. Back in the main room you'll also see a little arts & crafts section where the children can create a little something to display or take home.

Just next to the crafts section is a little cafe where we had sandwiches and drinks which was only came to £14 and I was expecting it to be double that especially with the snacks too.

Sea Life Centre Brighton is well worth a visit and make a day of it by visiting the historic Brighton pier and grab some fish n chips by the sea.

We received entrance tickets for the purpose of this review, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Pretty Padstow

Just before Easter our little family headed off to Coombe Mill to enjoy a family break and while we were down that way we headed to Padstow...a place we had never been before. Wow what an amazingly beautiful place it is, if you've never been before I suggest you head that way. It's difficult to put in to words how beautiful it is. From the moment you arrive you get a smell from the fish n chips and that draws you in straight away. Even though we visited while it was the school holidays it wasn't busy while kind of surprised us.

This is one of the first scenes you are greeted with...the Padstow harbour.

We spent the most part of the day there, starting with having a walk around the shops and enjoying the weather. We also headed off and had something to eat and we managed to find somewhere that sold something other than a fish n chips.

After lunch we walked to the beach expecting it to be busy but what we were greeted with was just the perfect empty sandy beach.

IMG_20140409_192141

The girls don't get to see sandy beaches very often so for the next few hours they made the most of it.

Like all good parent's we might not have been totally prepared but it didn't stop the girls and with the removal of their boots they went paddling in the sea wearing their tights.

Of course no trip to the seaside is complete without an ice cream and when in Padstow the ice cream has to be real Cornish ice cream.
