Ever since I was a little boy I've always wanted a Scalextric set, and for the past few years Aly has also been asking for one...well we know have our wish.
We now have our own Scalextric BTCC Touring Car Battle Set. Something we can both enjoy together and compete against each other.
I'm a huge motorsport fan (I even have my own F1 blog) and Aly also enjoys watching it with me so this set is perfect for us.
Inside the set, you get a lap counter, a power base with a 15V transformer, a lap counter, two wired controllers, track and a Honda Civic and a BMW 1 Series. One of my favourite things about this track is that you can build it into four different setups including a figure of eight which was the most fun. In total, the track length measures 484cm and takes up around 2 metres by 1.5 metres in floor space.
The track is easy and quick to put together and packs up neatly at the end of the day back into the box.
Once we got started the trick to this was to work out how fast you can get the cars going without going off the track. Mia started with a gently gently approach and Aly went for the fast on the straights and ease off in the corners.
The cars were tough and could withstand the crashes into each other and the times they went cruising across the living room into furniture. They still look brand new. Aly soon got the hang of it and had the skill to complete a 25 lap race without leaving the track.
The girls loved seeing just who was the quickest over different race lengths. It was fairly even during the shorter races but Aly had a way of putting in consistent laps on the longer races. Aly also enjoyed getting a stopwatch and timing her laps and the aim was to get under 3 seconds each time which wasn't so easy on the different track layouts.
Then it was my turn, at first I was amazed at how responsive the controller was and working out the right speed was a whole new trick. Do you keep a steady pace or slow down for corners and speed up on the straights?
This is a set that both Aly and I will be enjoying so much, we are much the same so it pushes up to try and beat the other. I know that she'll be setting the track up after school to get some practice in when I'm not around.
The Scalextric BTCC Touring Car Battle Set has an RRP of £99.99.
We were sent this set for the purpose of this review, all thoughts and opinions are our own.
